In a groundbreaking development for Pakistan's growing freelance market, freelancers in the country can now rejoice as PayPal, the global online payment and money transfer platform, has become available for financial transactions.

This initiative is poised to revolutionize Pakistan's untapped freelance sector, offering seamless business transactions across sectors. The platform allows users to send and receive money in 25 currencies in more than 200 countries around the world.

Information and Technology Caretaker Minister Dr. Umar Saif has expressed the importance of this milestone and said that the long demand of PayPal services of freelancers in Pakistan will be addressed. He explained the new approach, highlighting that freelancers will not need to open a PayPal account; Instead, international clients will pay directly to freelancers' accounts.

Dr. Saif also shed light on Pakistan's progress in space technology, emphasizing the approval of the nation's first space policy by the federal cabinet. The policy allows international companies to provide communications services via low-orbit communications satellites, marking a revolutionary change in satellite technology.

While traditional geostationary satellites have limitations due to latency, low-orbit satellites offer more efficient communication services. Dr. Saif emphasized the possibilities of private sector development in this area, enabling communication and internet services through satellite.

The National Space Policy is designed to support increased investment in the national space program, opening avenues for private sector companies to provide affordable internet services in Pakistan.

Anticipating the launch of 5G services in Pakistan by July, Dr. Saif outlined the need to expand the optic fiber network to support the upcoming technology. As part of this initiative, the government plans to set up 10,000 e-employment centers across the country, which will be equipped with modern facilities for freelancers and startups.

Highlighting the government's commitment to promote the IT and telecom sector, Dr. Saif unveiled plans to revamp IT education in collaboration with various institutions. This includes a comprehensive industry placement program, offering job opportunities to successful students.

While the official export figure for the IT and telecom sector is $2.6 billion, Dr. Saif stressed that the actual impact is around $5 billion, due to international spending on salaries, cloud hosting, and marketing on global platforms like Google, Amazon, etc. Taking into account and LinkedIn.
