
PowerPoint for the web introduces video insertion with closed captions
Microsoft PowerPoint for the web now supports inserting videos with closed captions and subtitles, increasing accessibility for users, especially those with hearing disabilities. This feature allows users to add closed captions in multiple languages, improving communication with different audiences. Similar features have been widely adopted by video sharing platforms such as TikTok, Netflix, and Zoom.

To use this functionality, users must create closed caption files in WebVTT format using caption creation tools or a text editor such as Notepad. Once the closed caption file is ready, users can select a video on PowerPoint for the web, insert the video, and add subtitles in one straightforward process. To add multiple languages, users can upload separate files to support different linguistic needs.

Microsoft's initiative aligns with its broader goal of creating a more comprehensive version of the Windows operating system. In March, the company introduced "Accessibility Assistant" for Microsoft 365, which aims to notify users when they are creating content that may be inaccessible.
