
Threads introduce fact-checking: Meta captures misinformation
With major elections on the horizon in the US and India, Threads, the social network, plans to launch a fact-checking program. Currently, Threads generates a Fact Check rating from Facebook or Instagram with similar content, said Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram. However, in the coming year, fact checkers will have dedicated tools to review and rate posts directly on the app.
Mosseri shared the goal for fact-checking partners to independently review and rate misinformation on threads, stressing the importance of keeping misinformation in check during key election periods. Meta, the parent company, revealed in a blog post that Thread users in the US will soon have the ability to adjust the demotion level of fact-checked posts.

While Threads has refrained from promoting news on the platform, the move toward implementing a fact-checking program signals a commitment to combating misinformation. The platform, known for blocking searches related to keywords such as "Covid" and "Covid-19", is taking proactive steps to prevent the spread of misinformation.
