TikTok Makes History with $10B in Consumer Spending
After reaching the milestone of 1 billion monthly active users in 2021, TikTok has achieved another milestone by becoming the first non-gaming mobile app to surpass $10 billion in user spending.
Unlike previous leaders in user spending, such as gaming apps Candy Crush Saga, Honor of Kings, Monster Strike, and Clash of Clans, TikTok now has a record of generating substantial revenue from user purchases on the iOS and Google Play platforms. It's important to note that this calculation does not include spending on third-party Android application stores in China, possibly indicating even higher total spending.
TikTok's revenue comes primarily from in-app purchases of "coins," a virtual currency that allows users to buy gifts for creators on the platform. According to data.ai reports, TikTok started 2023 with more than $6.2 billion in user spending and added an additional $3.8 billion over the year.
