WhatsApp Expands View Once to Voice Messages after Photos and Videos
WhatsApp introduced "View Once" functionality for photos and videos in August 2021, allowing users to send missing visual content. Now, this feature has been extended to voice messages.
Similar to how it works for photos and videos, View One's feature for voice messages — dubbed "hear once" — ensures that the recipient can only hear the audio message once, and it's theirs. Cannot be saved on device. Additionally, the sender loses the ability to replay the message after sending it.
When a recipient opens a View One audio message, a label indicating "Opened" will be displayed, provided the recipient has read receipts enabled.
WhatsApp says that for consistency with View Once photos and videos, View Once voice messages are also marked with the "one time" icon. They are also end-to-end encrypted by default.
View Once voice messages will begin rolling out globally over the coming days.
